Self-Learning Afficient Math

Afficient Academy is a proponent of self-learning. The core philosophy behind our products and services is that, through self-learning, students’ true potential can be realized. It’s a valuable life skill that should be acquired early. A student must continue to practice self-learning to achieve academic success and beyond.

However, we provide extensive support to our students through online supervised sessions, online drop-in sessions, and visits to the learning center during open hours. In each session, a student finds an instructor who is available to help, guide, and mentor them.

Our instructors’ support makes our programs very student-friendly and is a key differentiator that puts our AI-driven learning programs miles ahead of our competition.

Whether you are new to Afficient Academy or have been learning with us for quite some time, we recommend that our students take the following approach when using our products.

Let’s say you are learning 3rd-grade-level material in Afficient Math, and you are assigned the skill “5.6-One-Step Word Problems with Addition and Subtraction.” This may be a skill that you have already learned at school, or you may be learning it for the first time. In either case, we recommend that students first go through the “Demo.” The Demo breaks down the problem and provides step-by-step, easy-to-understand explanations in plain and simple English, appropriate for a 3rd-grade student.

Click the “Start Demo” blue button to learn the solution. The solution steps are presented in detail. If you notice, the blue button says, “Next Step.” Click it to proceed to the next step of the solution until the button changes to “Restart,” as illustrated in the image.

The step-by-step solution is easy to understand, so you can self-learn the skill; however, if you need to check another example, you may find another Demo exercise, such as Demo 2 in the above example. Please note that not all skills may have a Demo 2. After completing the demo exercises, a student should proceed to the “Assisted Exercises” if they are available, as in the above example. We recommend that students complete the Assisted exercises to reinforce the knowledge and skills of the concept being taught. If there are still gaps, these Assisted Exercises will help fill them before going on to the independent exercises.

When you start working on the Assisted Exercise, you may notice the “Help” button above the “Submit Answer” button. Clicking the Help button opens an explanation window that provides hints to the solution. Again, the solution is provided step-by-step, and once all steps are complete, the “Next Hint” button changes to “No More Hints.”

The Rationale Behind this Approach:

As mentioned earlier, self-learning is an essential life skill that will help not only academically but also in other facets of life. For example, one can pursue hobbies or life skills such as cooking, gardening, and playing musical instruments through self-learning rather than taking formal lessons, which are often costly and time-consuming.

Our approach of learning through Demos, Assisted Exercises, independent Exercises, and selecting the “Help” button when necessary will help develop self-learning skills, build self-confidence, and facilitate retention of knowledge and skills. Thousands of Afficient students have benefited from using our methodology and programs. We are confident that you will also be successful following this approach, for it’s been a tried-and-tested recipe for academic success.
