Afficient Academy’s Free Diagnostic Test is the first step in learning with Afficient Math and Afficient English. Our Free Diagnostic Test is a comprehensive assessment that evaluates a student’s skills across several grades and identifies the grade in which the student needs to begin addressing knowledge and skill gaps.

Let’s use an example. Let’s say a current 4th grader comes into one of our learning centers. Usually, the learning center manager will start the test at a 3rd-grade level (one grade level below, which is the highest grade the student has completed). After that assessment is completed, the student will be given either the 2nd-grade or the 4th-grade test based on their performance. Most students take three up to 20-minute subject tests, and their levels are diagnosed within an hour. Once their starting grades have been identified, students can begin learning using our AI-driven Afficient Math and Afficient English programs.

The Diagnostic Test Report:

The AI-driven system generates a comprehensive report for each test set, detailing all the skills tested and whether the student answered them correctly. In addition to accuracy, it also considers the speed at which the student answered the question and plots the result on an accuracy-speed diagram with six regions (regions 1-6). A score plotted in region 1 is the best outcome.

Let’s examine the test results of a real Afficient student, whom we will refer to as “Mary.” Mary is in 9th grade; her first math diagnostic test was set at an 8th-grade level.

Refer to the chart below.

Mary used the maximum time limit of 20 minutes set for the 8th-grade test.

She answered 12 questions with an accuracy of 85.60% and a speed of 1.01. Her score was placed in region 4. For the test that resulted in regions 4- 6, we have not found the starting grade. The next test will be one grade lower.

The next test was set at the 7th-grade level.

In 20 minutes, she answered 15 questions, had an accuracy of 73.50%, and a speed of 1.08. Her score landed in region 6.

The AI-driven system advised her to take the grade 6 diagnostic test.

She finished the test in 16.23 minutes, answered 23 questions, scored 88.8% accuracy, and had a speed of 1.59. Her score was placed in region 3.

How to interpret this result?

Based on the diagnostic test results, Mary needs to brush up on her Grade 6 and Grade 7 skills, and closing those skill gaps can only strengthen her foundation and help her going forward.

With just 30 minutes a day of focused attention in the program, Mary could complete Grade 6 within a few weeks, though it depends entirely on her effort.

Here’s an important aspect of Afficient Academy’s personalized learning methodology: The test is designed to identify from which grade the student needs to fill learning gaps. It is not unusual to require reviews of foundational skills from several grades below the current school grade.  Our AI-driven individualized learning program is designed to systematically fill these gaps, strengthen foundational knowledge, and help students progress efficiently toward their current grade level and beyond.

Overall, it can be extremely beneficial for students to spend a few extra weeks or months strengthening their learning foundations, as it will benefit their future academic careers. Afficient Academy’s Afficient Math and Afficient English will help your students build strong foundations, strengthen skills, boost confidence, and achieve greater academic success.
