If you are planning to take the SAT during the 2026-2027 school year, this article is for you. As you may know, there are two more opportunities to take the SAT this year: on November 7 and December 5. You can register for them on or before October 23 and November 20, respectively. If you have already registered for one of the remaining two tests, you must be in the thick of studying. You might be revisiting content, mastering a few concepts you are less confident in, or working on your speed at solving questions. If you are just starting the preparation process, we recommend that you take the SAT early next year, for most students require 3-6 months to prepare.
SAT 2026 – the latest format:
- The test is now digital.
- It’s an adaptive test, meaning the difficulty level of questions changes based on how well you perform.
- It’s a shorter test, taking 2 hours and 14 minutes, compared to a 3-hour, pen-and-paper-based format.
- An approved calculator is allowed throughout the test.
SAT Resources:

It matters significantly what resources you use to prepare for your SAT. There are online courses, free materials, and many SAT prep books. And there is the College Board’s Official Digital Practice, which is highly valuable.
Given the time at hand and the nature and importance of the test, an AI-driven, highly efficient, results-oriented test prep product that closely mirrors the real SAT is extremely valuable. Afficient’s AI-driven SAT Preparation Suite provides comprehensive support to prepare you for test day.
